President of the Tovrea Castle Society Tamera Zivic talks about the history of Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights

Story starts with F.L. & Lizzie Warner’s homestead on 160 desert acres in 1907.

1928, Alessio Carraro dreamed of a resort destination and housing area called Carraro Heights. The castle was designed as a hotel.

1931, Alessio sold the castle and acreage to E.A. Tovrea and wife Della.

Alessio opened a rock zoo (Carraro Grotto) in Yarnell, AZ.

Talks about the construction of the castle. Without building plans, completed in 14 months.

Explains why and how the city of Phoenix purchased the property and castle.

Castle needed refurbishing, updated to code and for the first time installed A/C.

How the Tovrea Carraros Society formed to run events and tours of the castle.

Decendents of the former owners of the castle are members of the society.
