REEis Home Energy Audit

Difficulty Rating: Easy

REEis Show and Tell-Part One

  • Photo 1: Exterminator places the rat traps near their hang outs – where the cold air is leaking from the register

  • Photo 2: Proper way to seal a platform return – seal wall cavities with duct board and mastic eliminating garage and attic air from entering AC unit

  • Photo 3: Platform return connected to wall cavities which are wide open to the attic space = 140 - 160 degree air into the AC

REEis Show and Tell-Part Two

  • Photo 4: Drop ceiling = thermal envelop failure.  Notice the rat droppings – it is cold in this section of the attic as the conditioned air is lost

  • Photo 5: Insulation regularly falls off of knee walls over time.  A 5% failure in the insulation will cut the effective value in half.  This is a big failure caused by gravity. NOTICE the water marks on the wall – This is condensation which is common when hot and cold air come together

REEis Show and Tell-Part Three

  • Photo 6: 150 degree air being sucked directly into the AC System's Intake

  • Photo 7: Dryer vent lint, dust, particulates and other pollutants enter the duct system through leakage and are exhausted throughout the house
