Keeping the house and your family cooler in the Arizona summer might be easier than you think. There are many actions you can take to make your home more comfortable and save on your energy bill.
The toughest part about making energy-saving changes to your home is figuring out where to begin. You can start by checking out the rebates and discounts that are available through your local utility company. In Arizona, SRP offers customers many rebates and discounts that you may not know about. Here are some suggestions:
Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® — Does your home have enough insulation? Are your air ducts leaking? To find out, schedule an SRP Home Performance with ENERGY STAR inspection. A participating contractor will check your insulation, air ducts, AC and more, and give you a detailed report listing areas where you can save energy and money. Plus, you’ll receive an energy-efficiency kit. SRP customers get all that for just $99 (a $500 value).
Cool Cash — Don’t be fooled by the change in season. Keep your AC from playing a practical joke on you this summer, and avoid an expensive breakdown during the hottest time of the year. Act now to keep cool all summer long. Install a new, qualifying high-efficiency system and get up to $400 back. Plus, save up to 40% on cooling costs annually.
Duct Test and Repair — If there are rooms in your house that you can’t keep comfortable, the culprit may be leaky ducts. Ducts carry air from the central heating or cooling system to each part of your home. In a typical house, about 20% of the air that moves through the duct system is lost because of improper duct installation. Sealing up leaks can save you $200 or more in annual energy costs and improve indoor comfort. SRP can help with rebates of up to $75 toward duct testing and up to $175 for qualified duct repairs.
Shade Screens — Keep your home comfortable and the summer heat where it belongs — outside. Nearly 50% of the heat that enters your home comes through windows. This year, add shade screens to sun-struck windows to reduce your cooling costs by up to 25%. Save even more with rebates from SRP.
Energy-Efficient Pools — Summertime means pool time. As your home’s second-largest energy user, your pool pump can cost you up to $560 annually to operate. But you can reduce this expense by more than half with a variable-speed pool pump. And with the SRP Energy-Efficient Pools Program rebate of $200 for a variable-speed pool pump, it’s even easier to keep your cool this summer.
