Try attending a home show—one that focuses on home-improvement professionals rather than furniture and home décor.
 
At a home show, hundreds of home-improvement companies set up shop for the weekend in a convention center and invite the public in to get ideas, look at materials, meet tradesmen and talk money. They demonstrate how products work; they show ways to use the materials that you might not have thought of; and they display stuff you didn’t even know existed. It’s a great place to pick up the knowledge and meet the people you need to get the job done.

• Yavapai County Contractors Association Home and Garden Show in May
• Arizona Home & Building Expo in September 

Home shows usually run on weekends. If you get to these two early on Saturday, you can catch Rosie and Romey broadcasting the Rosie on the House show live from 8-11 a.m.
