Which flat-screen TV is better: plasma or LCD?
That’s a question with an “it depends” sort of answer—and one that has spurred endless debate. Here are a few things you should consider as you decide between a plasma or LCD set:
Buy a plasma if:
- Your TV room is bright or if you watch a lot of fast-paced sports. Plasmas offer a clearer picture during high-motion sequences, and you more easily view it from a variety of angles. (The Pioneer Elite Plasma displayed to the right)
Buy an LCD if:
- You want to use less energy than a plasma uses. Both plasmas and LCDs are energy hogs, but LCDs use substantially less energy than plasmas.
- Your home sits at a high altitude. Check with the manufacturer of any plasma TV you intend to use at an altitude of greater than 5,000—before you buy one—to make sure it’s guaranteed to work. (The LG Scarlet LCD displayed to the right)
